Valentino Couture Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

Fashion

As always, the Roman clothing company that is so revered for its designs has set the bar rather high at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week runway show presenting the mind-blowing ValentinoCouture spring/summer 2015 collection inspired by love and showing a unique blend of the modern and historic, something which has defined Valentino’s jaw-dropping designs for years. It was in the 1960s that Valentino ventured into international waters, and bringing his designs to Paris certainly catapulted him to fame. To date, there have been 12 distinct Valentino perfumes created as well. It was in 1968 that Valentino scored the brand’s biggest triumph in the all-white dress collection. From Jacqueline Kennedy to Elizabeth Taylor, Farah Diba to Princess Margaret, Valentino couture became a must for the wardrobes of the world’s best-dressed. The international experience of the fashion house certain translates into this year’s haute couture fashion show collection, wherein it appears that a trip around the world in the ‘80s days has been the main inspiration.

Valentino Couture Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

Creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli certainly have outdone themselves, presenting such a magnificent array of designs to choose from, viewers are left dumfounded. The focus appears to be on foreign royal houses and the traditional attire of the courts combined with a touch of modernity. Before delving into historical costumes, the Valentino Couture spring/summer 2015 collection begins with a beautiful modern black velvet number, complete with a deep plunge at the neck and a butterfly style look, the wings extending over the shoulders and onto the back. It is a long gown, simple and without any embellishments to take away from the epic proportions of the design. This one is easily seen as a red carpet favourite, especially when coupled with fringed bangs and left bereft of any jewellery that may normally adorn the arms, neck, ears and any other part of the body.

Each piece in the collection is of a unique design, as if inspired by a different city, a difference culture and a whole different race. The length of the hems vary with each piece, the colors used keep changing. The patterns are never the same between pieces, but in terms of prevalence of trends, we see much in terms of wine reds; we see piece after piece that presents embroidery and prints akin to the Eastern European national traditions. Some even appear as if painstakingly woven rugs have been turned into cloth. We even end up seeing an open midriff or two, set against twin sets of floor-length skirts and cropped high neck and long sleeved tops. Matching pairs of shoes certainly take the cake, while the crimson cape brings more of a regal air to the ensemble. In terms of hair and makeup, the latters is kept to a minimal design, while the former is scraped back in a textured updo, nothing frivolous but certainly not as strict as may have been expected.

Valentino Couture Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

What we see a lot of throughout the Valentino Couture spring/summer 2015 collection show, other than the crimson coloring and the Eastern or Oriental style designed embroideries is the sheer aspects on so many of the pieces, as well as the immense amount of velvet that’s used. Lace is also always an option, while the necklines range between two extremes: either they are extreme deep V plunges or they are high and ruffled, as they were centuries before. Of course, we do see strapless pieces and simple crow-necks as well, but the extremes are more intriguing to watch. It does, however, appear as if there’s a timeline transition, with changing designs reflecting different points in history, until the last of the 47 gowns seems to reflect modern day intricacies, patterns and fabric choice. Those olden designs would look splendid if worn by the right person during awards ceremonies, however, much more so than the modern numbers.

Viktor & Rolf Couture Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

Fashion

The Amsterdam based fashion house founded in 1993 by Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, is definitely one to look for on the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week’s runways. After all, their couture is generally very intriguing, this year reminding us of country doll dresses with tons of straw, floral prints, and layer upon layer of pleated ruffles. It’s a garden that we see, worn by long legged beauties, with puffed up skirts and thigh-skimming lengths at the hem. The Viktor & Rolf Couture spring/summer 2015 collection certainly was a colorful show that any and all who watched greatly enjoyed.

Viktor & Rolf Couture Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

Viktor and Rolf started with ready to wear fashions in 2000, though back in 1998, they held an unauthorized show during the Paris Fashion Week in order to attract members of the press. They’ve been innovative and gone to new lengths to bring the focus onto their works, including creating a “Russian Doll” out of model Maggie Rizer, who was dressed in layer after layer of couture dresses, all piled on top of the other. They’ve done clothing, both couture and ready-to-wear, as well as accessories, while also taking on contracts to develop perfumes for different companies.

When it came down to presenting their couture designs on the runway today, the house had 20 options to display, all of which had a similar theme. It’s as if there was a story to be told of a young girl in the middle of winter (for she wore white with black swirls, the bow on her chest denoting her age) who slowly grows into the harbinger of spring weather, beginning with melting the snows and having the streams gurgle in their blue colors, before the daffodils bloom and aqua joins yellows, then purples and finally reds, and finally it appears as if she brings the wheat harvest of autumn, the blue flowers giving way to browns and mustard yellows instead of the spring sunshine seen at first. All the while, she never fails to carry a straw hat, knowing full well the harvest is the most important part of the year, but she also dares to enjoy the moments of beauty, of pure sunshine and the rains that ensure every bloom is as perfect, as vibrant as the next. Her dress is that of a doll, like those straw woven little toys that are believed to bring about a good yield if you care for it well and keep it in your home. The full skirts never pass the mini hem line, nor do they go so short as to be indecently exposing too many body parts. Instead, the straw doll attracts the attention of the farmer and bestows upon him a full year of luck and prosperity.

The Viktor & Rolf Couture spring/summer 2015 collection is not full of a wide array of choices in couture dresses to choose from, but what it lacks in numbers, it makes up for in incredibly vibrant coloring and whimsical design. It is clear that this fashion house is not your typical chic, sophisticated and often slightly strange French, Spanish or Italian style, nor does it find inspiration in the same places. Here, it’s the simple farmer, the countryside and the traditions held dear over the centuries.

Massimo Dutti January 2015 Lookbook

Fashion

Suede, leather, white shirts and golden mustard capris, knit jackets and khaki shorts are fall into the latest Massimo Dutti January 2015 lookbook. The Spanish company may have only been women’s fashionable clothing since 1992, despite opening its doors back in 1985 in Barcelona, but the styles are impeccably desirable and we are devouring image after image with stupefied intent. While many may believe that Massimo Dutti is a fashion designer himself, the truth is that there is no real person in the company by that name. It is but the brand under which the line operates. The name might sound Italian, but the company itself with wholly Spanish.

Massimo Dutti January 2015 Lookbook

In its latest Massimo Dutti January 2015 lookbook, we are certainly seeing the chic sophistication we have come to expect from the brand, as its international fans demand at least a few pieces from the famed collections. This January lookbook should provide those even in far-flung countries such as Armenia and Malta with a good sample of designs to get one through the next month at least!

A blue pantsuit, not too light and not too dark seems like the perfect office look to be rocking this season. It’s professional, chic and has a touch of sexy with its single button placed lower on the jacket, in line with the hips, and the comfortable wide pant allowing for airy movement without the typical constrictions we are prone to seeing. It can be worn with a shirt or a simple tank top underneath, or even without anything at all to add a touch of risqué to the whole outfit. Hair trends tend to be on the medium side these days, while beige leather bands on watches and beige colored flats finish off the look with classy ease.

With the trends for denim still tending to lean towards multiple pieces of it in a single outfit, the next gorgeous set of fitted mid-rise denim pants with a looser denim shirt is great, particularly when topped off with a grey and white tweed jacket to add some contrast and offset the Wild West look. It’s casual but not to be underestimated as it can be just as sexy as any other outfit, particularly with the shirt top buttons left undone. The cuffs peeking out from under the jacket also add to the allure of this style, meaning we’ll be craving even more denim once we grab ourselves some Massimo Dutti pieces.

Massimo Dutti January 2015 Lookbook

Massimo Dutti January 2015 Lookbook

Speaking about tweed jackets, the same can also come in a denim color, which looks amazing with a silky navy and white designed blouse, a snakeskin blue leather handbag and comfortable white slacks. It’s a professional look that’s sleek and chic while with a hint of sexy as the top buttons are best left undone, baring at least a sliver of skin. It’s a great look, one that coupled with a blow-dried hairstyle that looks rather wind swept and barely there makeup presents a rather intriguing and positively mesmerising fashion sense.

Change the blouse and white slacks with leather skinny pants in a cognac color and a darker navy sweater and you have a rather lovely look that’s perfect for the spring season. Throw in nude or cognac colored leather strap sandals, while also adding an oversized handbag in the same color and you have one spring look that should be in every wardrobe come the next few seasons. We are huge fans of this particular style and many would agree on this statement.

Gigi Hadid for GUESS Spring 2015 Campaign

Fashion

GUESS, an American upscale clothing brand retailer, has released its spring 2015 campaign and we are thrilled with the amount of sophisticatedly sexy designs we are privy to. The Marciano brothers set up shop in Los Angeles back in 1981 and GUESS made its first appearance in the upscale Beverly Hills area. In 1985, it had made iconic black-and-white advertisements its staple. With revenues of over 1.2 billion USD a year, the company is one of the largest brands and most definitely a favorite among the young and the old. It’s no wonder that the presentation of the GUESS spring 2015 campaign has been a much anticipated event for many, particularly after the latest announcement of the brand’s face Gigi Hadid becoming a Maybelline brand ambassador.

GUESS Spring 2015 Campaign

On January 18, 2015, the headlines brought the limelight onto Gigi Hadid, the 19-year-old American fashion model and TV personality, who brings her sexy poses to the GUESS spring 2015 collection and blows all away with her sassy style. She’s been the face of GUESS ever since she was a child, the latest of which was in 2012, and the past year has enjoyed much in terms of popularity, due to her cover feature on Galore Magazine, Carine Roitfield’s CR Fashion Book and Schön! Magazine. Her mother’s modelling background and her stepfather’s career as a music producer have enabled the young model of Palestinian and Dutch background to go far, bringing her younger sister Bella into the fashion industry with her. As for her work with GUESS, we absolutely love seeing her take center stage and turn out to be on the cover of it all. This is her first solo campaign and we believe she’s done an amazing job in presenting the denim, gingham prints and knitwear, all in her sexy style (some may argue a little too sexy in some places). Throughout the whole of the campaign we see denim on denim styling, lacy designs and a good amount of gingham to really sate one’s appetite.

It’s not a common occurrence to see knit sweaters over beachwear, but we cannot help but comment on how lovely the mix looks. It’s kind of like wearing a sweater over mini shorts, except you are definitely showing off more skin than that. The sweater in itself is gorgeous, looks, extremely soft and comfortable, while still encompassing both warmth and sexiness in design. The string bikini and the beach background have us pining for warmer days already, but the lovely knit sweater will have to do for the moment this spring… at least until the weather warms up by May and we find the nearest beach to enjoy some Vitamin D along with the surf.

GUESS Spring 2015 Campaign

Gigi Hadid appears to be a rather professional ballet dancer as well if her pose says anything about her extracurricular activities. The beach dress is magnificent though, with the stringy connection between skirt and top mesmerizing to look at. It is light, flowing, and baring much while leaving just enough to the imagination to be one of the sexiest vacation dresses to take to the beach we’ve yet seen this year. Now we just need to work on our bikini bodies and maybe see into working on our dance steps if we’re going to pull off a similar pose in the future!

Denim over lacy coral-colored dress and gingham bikini bottoms looks rather amazing unto itself actually. Now we just wish we had a better view of the dress and perhaps the top of that gingham bikini as well but beggars can’t be choosers it appears. But the off-the-shoulder design of that dress is reminiscent of Spanish or Mexican styles, while the color itself is very warm and suited for carefree summer days. The denim does much to bring out the amazing in the whole of the outfit, though we might like to see it actually on the shoulders of someone before picking it up for ourselves.

Simplicity is the main focus of the entire NARS spring 2015 makeup collection, which seems to be paying tribute to the biggest beauty trend of the new season – the no makeup makeup look. This means, you definitely don’t need bright and rich eyeshadow colors and big eyeshadow palettes, as just one or two coordinated neutral tones are enough to create the maximum effortless and soft looks that will easily go from day to night. This is the only mini palette of the collection, which features more than one eyshadow tones and is a great piece to own in your beauty kit, since this is where the perfect neutral makeup look starts, as well as it can be great to be mixed and matched with bolder shades for toning down their va-va-voom effect.

• St-Paul-de-Vence – Shimmering nectarine / Chestnut

NARS Blush ($30.00)

Nude makeup doesn’t mean a bare face, but a soft au naturale look, wherein a soft blush color plays an important role. NARS has that ideally sophisticated blush tone for you, which will flatter any skin tone and can be a great option both for the neutral makeup looks and for more intense ones.

• Reckless – Sheer pink shimmer

NARS Sheer Lipstick ($26.00)

Ditch all those bright lipstick shades and go for the timeless nude color, which is especially great to pair with sultry smokey eye looks.

• Liguria – Nude caramel

NARS Spring 2015 Makeup Collection

NARS Lip Gloss ($26.00)

It’s a good idea to wrap up your nude lips with a sheer gloss, which will plump them up creating a more kissable pout. On the other hand, you can wear it alone too, especially on a daily basis. There are two shades of lip-glosses available in the collection, which are:

• Guyane – Seashell pink

Primark Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

Fashion

Primark’s making headlines during the start of this New Year, with multiple store opening announcements, including one in Bath just days ago, with a few more in the works to appear in the sopping world throughout 2015. The Irish retailer that goes by the name Pennys in Ireland is the budget clothing store that attracts the fashion fans without much cash flow. The store first opened its doors on Mary Street in Dublin in 1969, quickly adding to its chain until it became the ever expanding success story it is today. Selling fashionable clothes at a low cost really gained it its popularity, so much so that the Primark name is known in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands and the UK as well. Soon, the United States will also be able to enjoy all that the company has to offer.

Primark Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

This year bodes well for the brand and the Primark spring/summer 2015 collection has been released just in time for many to begin stocking up for the warmer seasons. Since the hustle and bustle of Christmas and the New Year celebrations are over, we are all longing for brighter days with sunshine and Vitamin D. Of course, that would require warm enough weather to afford the shedding of the jackets and sweaters, replacing them with sweet, flirty dresses and showing off some skin as we try to fix our tans and rid ourselves of our pasty winter looks. As such, Primark has ensured this spring and summer we will be enjoying our days in a fashionably young manner, giving its collection a fun and flirty flair. A 2012 Valentino yellow dress now appears in its cloned version for Primark, while vintage lace and crop tops adorn the racks with their classical white nuclear colors and trends that refuse to leave the runway yet. Budget accessories that emulate top designs also appear within the collection, sprucing up the outfits with their sweet lavender chains and fun polka dotted handbags.

Crop top and skirt twinsets are all the rage and Primark isn’t one to back down from the challenge of creating something that’s both fashionable and unique, which is where this green and black leafy print set comes into play. The round glasses are totally vintage and entirely too out of place, so much so that we are beginning to love them. The blue tint to the lipstick though? We might have a problem with that. We’ll be waiting to see who actually becomes the trendsetter for this one.

The ‘90s are back! Or maybe it’s the ‘80s? Perhaps the ‘70s…. or possibly the ‘60s. That look has it all really, complete with the bright white coloring, the crop top, large and loose pants that sit on the waist and show off the belly button, the platform open toes that do little to promote femininity and the sleeveless matching jacket that is as wildly adorable as the rest of it. Paired with a thick white link necklace and we have a lovely beach worthy look that has made it into Primark but might be a little confused on which century it’s from.

Primark Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

Primark Spring/Summer 2015 Collection

Last year’s denim on denim looks are still here and still as strikingly lovely. Just pair the denim shorts with a denim jacket and add a bright yellow tank top underneath while finishing off with flower power flats wit slight platforms. That lipstick is 2 decades past its prime though so we’ll once again be waiting for trendsetters that go for lip pencils 3 shades darker than the lipstick or gloss itself. Who knows? We might be seeing the comeback of the darker outlining once again!

We’re loving that summery look until we get to the footwear. We might want to replace those slipper-looking styles with something more chic and less chunky, especially since we’re in love with the knee length wide leg, the pockets and the deep V plunge of this particular design. We honestly can’t get enough!

Flower prints on black fabric, crop top with halter design, knee length wide legged trousers, and a yellow jacket to throw over it all has us rather enchanted. We’re definitely doing much better with the footwear too, combining comfort with style, throwing in the black thick lacing with white platform that is sure to be turning heads. This is a great look and we’re excited to see it in the Primark spring/summer 2015 collection.

The white crochet look is possibly our very favourite, the crop top and midi skirt in white lace design, complete with matching white lace flats. It’s the perfect set, with its innocent little girl combined with sultry beach princess look. Baring the midriff for the sun to tan, the body is clad in very little that gives full coverage, but enough to look quite decent at a party. A beach party is probably the best place to wear this one, but it wouldn’t matter where it was worn since we are definitely adding it to our spring/summer 2015 personal wardrobes.
